I want to start by saying that TASCON was a grand success. If you didn’t have the chance to attend it, you are at loss buddy. Anyways, block your calendar for it next year. I’m sure it’ll be tremendous. I didn’t get the opportunity to attend all the sessions as some of them were parallel to the others, but from the ones I did, I can happily say they were awesome. The speakers, the audience, the moderators, the topics- everything was perfect.

I’m a big social media fanatic. If money and delicious food wouldn’t be a necessity to survive, I’d be probably feeding on social media. You’ll find me hovering all over the internet for information. (Sorry to crush your joke, I’m not from IIN.) My laptop or should I say toughbook, is my partner for life. (Yes, I proudly own that thick rugged piece of awesomeness even when Windows 7 has ruined its experience for me.) Anyway, as a social media lover, I’ve learned to appreciate its beauty. There’s a lot more to discover, a lot more to share and a lot more to learn. No, I’m not the person who keeps posting everything on social media. I’m just somebody who has learned to use it effectively.

I’m sure you might have guessed by now as to where I’m heading with this. Well, let me get there then. I’m going to share something about my favourite session at the conference: Magic of 140 characters by Kunjal Kamdar.

We all know Kunjal is an expert at Twitter. We all have seen it. But, below is what he explained and that’s the gateway for us to be what he is.

Err… don’t scroll down directly. Have some patience. It’s what Twitter is all about. As Kunjal said, “It’s not Maggi and it won’t cook in 2 minutes.” I totally agree with it. Twitter is a lot about patience. Those 140 characters don’t create the magic in 140 seconds. It takes good amount of time and effort with loads of patience.

Twitter has to be used very smartly to get results. (I’m personally going to use this tip.) Kunjal says,”A tweet should be posted at least three times a day.” He continues,”Not everybody is on Twitter while you tweet. For everybody to view your tweet, it’s very important for it to be posted when they are online.” How can I deny this anyway? It explains a very valid point.

The most important of all these points as he states is “Keep job postings on Twitter to minimal. A candidate will go to naukri to search for a job or might google it but he’s surely not going to be on Twitter.” The most agreeable point even if our product actually helps do it. He literally broke my heart when he said that the conversion rates through Twitter are zero but yeah, what he says is right and I’d accept it.

For all you lazy bozos out there, this one’s for you. (No offense there! I’m one of you.) There are many hardworking people out there who’ve researched some great information for us and put up in the form of lists. Kunjal calls these the “untapped gold mines of Twitter” No doubt they are! Just go subscribe and have those gold mines make you rich with all that information.

Lastly, Kunjal also mentioned that Twitter is more about learning and exploring. Don’t abuse and ruin that environment.

So, there it ends. This was just a gist of what all I learned. It was a great experience altogether and meeting someone who is so passionate about something you are too, is a bliss.

I met some other experts too and without a doubt, they were all perfect at what they did.
